LUNGSTROM, THORNE, WANDS posted by Christine Wands on Wednesday, August 9, 2000

George THORNE, son of William Wright THORNE and Christine LUNGSTROM, was born 12/20/1890 in Helena, Montana. In 1939, he was living in Valier, Montana (his social security application indicates he was working for Cargill, Inc at that time). He died in Highwood, Chouteau County, Montana, in 1973, according to the social security death index.
I am interested in discovering if he married during the period 1920 - 1973 and if there were any children. He was the older brother of my late mother, Mildred Caroline Thorne Wands.
He disappeared from his home in Rhame, North Dakota, in 1920 or 1921, and was eventually declared legally dead. Recent research has turned up his social security application and now we want to know what happened to him -- and if there are any more Thorne cousins out there.
He has one remaining elderly sister, and we would love to clear up this mystery before it's too late for her.
Thank you, Christine Wands Cincinnati, OH Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

CLARKE, HUGHES posted by Nkprince on Thursday, September 7, 2000

Family legend says: "FRANKLIN DUVAL CLARKE was orphaned when his parents (from Michigan?) were killed by Indians in a wagon train in Montana sometime in the 1860s. He was taken in by a man, possibly his uncle, JIM HUGHES, who raised him in Fort Benton, Montana. Sometime during his youth, Clarke was captured by a band of Indians, but he escaped and returned to the Fort. When Mr. Hughes died in about 1875, Clarke, who was about 15, left with a group of men headed for the gold fields in southern Colorado."
I am interested in any information that could help me trace this legend, either knowledge of the people, or hints on where to look for more information. Thank you very much.
