S. Transport Tuscania when tropedoed, but he had been taken off boat and sent ashore with measles, later rejoined company in France.

Commended by Secretary of Navy for performance of duty, Jan. 6, 1919; discharged April 30, 1919 at Hoboken, N. J.; fireman first class.

MEACHEN, Robert W.
age 22 years, entered the service from Troy, Montana. His mother, Mrs, James W. Meachen resides at Blissfield, Michigan. He trained at Bremerton, Wash., and Norfolk, Virginia, and sailed on the U. S. S. Lake Moor, which was torpedoed at 11:40 p.m., April 11, 1918, off the coast of Scotland, resulting in his death by drowning. His rank was Second Class Engineer. Enlisted in service August 1, 1917.

UPHAM, George
brother, Jess Upham, Troy, Montana; served in 6th Bn. 20th Engineers. In France 16 months. Going over was on Tuscania when that ship was torpedoed. Entered life boat with 35 men. Boat capsized and only five men escaped. Upham being one of them. Was good swimmer and managed to reach shore, although still carries scars from being washed against the rocks.
