St Olaf in Carbon County is 20 miles from any town. It sits on a promontory overlooking the confluence of Volney Creek and Red Lodge Creek. Standing on the steps looking south the Beartooth Mountains seem to form a wall in front of you. The Hoines family homestead was about 5 miles south of here on Volney Creek. The church is still active with occasional services, but primarily it is used for weddings and funerals.
