Harvest at Big Coulee, circa 1900
From Suzan: "I found this photoin a box that belonged to my great-grandmother, Caroline (Hotten) Hocker. It was taken inthe Big Coulee, south of Ryegate, Montana... Date Taken: Early 1900's Grandma Carrie(Hotten) Hocker came from Illinois with her four children, Damon, Iris, Nellie, and Mary,and her mother, Hannah (Paul) Hotten) to homestead in the Big Coulee in about 1915. Herhomestead is still known as the Hocker Place at Ryegate, MT. It is not known why thegrandpas, Fred Hocker and Thomas Hotten, were left behind in Illinois. Fred joined hisfamily in Ryegate in the 1930's. Thomas died in 1927 at Colchester, Illinois."
