Forestvale Cemetery
The History of Forestvale Cemetery;
The Forestvale Cemetery, now listed in the National Register of Historic Places, was established in 1890 by a group of Helena investors. In the summer of 1889 they purchased 140 acres for $3500.00 from Charles C. Colber and his wife. The cemetery was recorded as the Helena Cemetery in the Helena Directory of 1891. The 1909 Directory documented the name change to Forestvale Cemetery. Forestvale was the first cemetery in Helena which was not affiliated with a particular religious or fraternal group, and has been operated by private associations since its inception. This burial ground is today still serving Lewis & Clark County and the surrounding area.
