Amasa Mallory of Mallory Bros. Stamp Mill

There were 7 brothers all with the initial A. H. Mallory, the youngest named for an Uncle Joseph Austin Mallory.   They were born N.Y.State, and went to Clayton Co. Iowa with their parents Allen Horace Sr. and Lucina Mallory in 1838.  The father along with most of his sons made several trips to the gold rush.  Allen Sr. and my anc. Augustus always returned to Iowa.  Joseph Austin Mallory along with Amasa H. Mallory had the Mallory Bros. Stamp mill in Pony, Mt. from abt. 1874 - late 1878.   My husband & I visited the area in 1996.  We learned at the Madison County Court House that a street in Pony was named Mallory. Feb. 3, 1878 Joseph died from complications from a fall while adding five more stamps to the Mallory Bros. mill.  The log cabin mill with an overshot water wheel was the first mill in Pony.  After his death Joseph's wife Susan & children Charles, Minnie, Bertha, Mabel with Henry Elling rep. them, and a partner Mr. Barnes filed for their share of the Mallory Bros. holdings, and the mill was sold at a sheriff's sale to Henry Elling of Virginia City, and Mr. Morris the Pony banker. The remains of the Morris Elling are near the site where the Mallory Bros. mill stood.  I have been unable to find Joseph's grave.  His O.B. was in the Madisonian.  Amasa was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 2 Ennis, Mt. July  1874-Oct. 1886. Amasa H. Mallory died Nov. 22, 1893, and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery Dutch Flat, Calif. He sent this picture to his father in Iowa, and I have inserted what was on the back of the picture (see insert on photo).Amasa often went by Am. .
