George Washington Corson, Choteau, Teton County, Montana

Believed to be portrait of George Washington Corson.  Inscribed "Geo. W. Corson" on reverse. Larson & Simmons, photographers, Waterloo, Iowa. Date of  photograph unknown.

George Washington Corson was born in 1826 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, the son of Isaac Corson and Sarah Shipman.  In 1851, George married Eliza Ann Kennedy and they had 2 sons, Shuler Mehrling and Isaac Shipman. Eliza died in 1862, and in 1864, George married Clara Foulk.

In 1886 George, Clara and their son Byron, settled in the Great Falls area where George ran the Higgins House Hotel.

George's sons S. M. and I. S. Corson had preceded them to Montana.

In December, 1887, Clara died at Sun River. Mr. Corson returned to Ohio
for one year. Upon his return to Montana, he settled in Choteau, Teton County. George W. Corson died June 29, 1898 in Choteau.
