ON TRIAL FOR MURDER COMMITTED YEARS AGO

Dan Merrigan, charged with the murder of James Ferry seven years ago, near the corner of Main street and Broadway, was placed on trial this afternoon in Judge Lynch’s department of the district court.

According to the information in the possession of the authorities , the two men had some trouble and it is alleged that Merrigan drew a knife and inflicted wounds which resulted in the death of Ferry.

Soon after the trouble Merrigan disappeared, and although all the leading cities in the country were asked to look out for him, it was not until a few months ago he was found in a Nevada town.

On information reaching here that he had been captured after a hunt of nearly seven years, Sheriff John K. O’Rourke went after Merrigan and brought him to this city.
