COUNTY FORMATION

Mineral County was established 07 Aug 1914, getting its territory from the western portion of Missoula County. The name was given because of the many mining propects in the area. Its original boundaries have remained unchanged.

Superior is the County Seat. It was formed in 1869, and named after the founder's hometown in Wisconsin. The post office was established in 1871, after Mineral County became the site of one of the largest gold strikes that helped settle the West.
