SERVICEMEN PART 1
SERVICEMEN MEMORIAL
TO THE SOLDIERS IN VIET NAM
by Melvin LaFountain -- January 15, 1967
Here in Southeast Asia,
Vietnam is the spot.
We are doomed to spend one year
In the land that God forgot.
Here in the land of
nothing
Where men get mighty blue;
Right in the middle of nowhere,
Twelve thousand miles from you.
We sweat, we fight, we
suffer-
It's more than a man can stand;
We're not a bunch of convicts,
We're defenders of our land
We're soldiers of our
country
Earning our measly pay;
Guarding people with millions
For two-and-a-half a day.
Nobody knows that we're
alive,
And nobody gives a damn;
At home we are almost forgotten-
We belong to "Uncle Sam."
We are living with our
memories
While waiting for our gals-
Hoping that while we're away
They won't find someone else
We're not having any fun
here
Look at the good times we've missed;
Brother, don't get drafted-
And for gosh sake don't enlist.
When we reach those
fiery gates
You'll hear the devil yell:
"Fall out, you boys from Vietnam,
You've spent your time in hell."
OUR SERVICE MEN AND
WOMEN
In
tribute to those who gave so much for our country and in
memory of those who gave the most of all--their lives--to
keep this nation free, we dedicate this section of the
book to the following who served in the armed forces of
the United States of America. We have done our very best
to make the list as accurate as possible. Any mistakes and
or omissions are unintentional.
