ALFRED F. RUDD

DR. ALFRED F. RUDD, Jefferson City, son of John C. and Lucinda (Fowler) Rudd, was born at South Champion, Jefferson Co., N. Y., September 1, 1832.  At 17 years of age he commenced the study of medicine with his brother at Mansville, N. Y., where he remained three years.  He then went to Cincinnati and attended a course of lectures, after which he continued his studies at Quincy, Ill., some eight months, and subsequently at Madison, Wis., with his brother, who had come west and located at this place.  In the following spring he returned to Quincy and became a student and assistant with Dr. M. F. Bassett, but graduating at second term of lectures was soon accepted as a partner, and remained there in practice eight years.  In 1862 Dr. Rudd went to Portland, Ore., practiced for a short time, then moved west to Boise City, and from there to Jerdan Creek, when he was elected recorder of that district in August 1864.  He soon after made a trip to the States, via Portland and the Isthmus.  After a visit of three weeks he located at Council Bluffs, Ia., practicing his profession until the summer of 1865, when he again went to Madison, Wis., and in company with his brother was engaged in practice until May, 1866.  Again crossing the plains he arrived in Helena September 20, and practiced a short time.  Having bought a claim in Tucker Gulch, he removed there and engaged in mining until 1868.  He then visited Wilson Gulch, where he mined a short time, and from there went to Council Bluffs via Boise City, White Pine and Salt Lake City, and was there engaged in practice until 1875, when he came to Jefferson City, where he enjoys a good practice.  Dr. Rudd was married at Auburn, Ore., March 17, 1864, to Miss Elida E. McFadden.
