WILLIAM C. WHALEY

WILLIAM C. WHALEY, of Bedford, Jefferson County, joint representative for Jefferson and Gallatin Counties, was born in Hastings, Dakota County, Minn., December 19, 1857.  While yet an infant his parents crossed the plains to Colorado in the year 1860.  Two years later the family was driven by the hostiles into Utah, and in the spring of 1863 moved to Montana, being attracted by the excitement over the gold discoveries in Alder Gulch; has resided there and at Diamond City and Bedford at different times; received the rudiments of his education in the common schools, but was afterward sent to the Christian Brothers' School in St. Louis, where he received a thorough training.  Mr. Whaley is a single man, and is one of the leading farmers and stock growers of Jefferson County; was never in public life until elected by the Democratic party of his district to the House of Representatives.
